ACT Government Releases Greenfield Housing Strategy to Meet 100,000 Home Target
The ACT Planning Authority has published its 20-year Greenfield Housing Strategy, outlining a program of staged land releases in the Molonglo Valley and Gungahlin region that it says will deliver 100,000 new homes by 2046.
The strategy identifies seven new suburbs for development, including two entirely new districts in the Molonglo Valley's western reaches that will require significant investment in roads, schools, and utilities.
The strategy acknowledges that the ACT faces unique challenges given its landlocked geography, with all future greenfield development occurring in areas currently designated as rural or national park buffer zones.
ACT Planning Minister Rebecca Cross said the government remained committed to its dual strategy of both greenfield expansion and urban densification, noting that medium-density infill in established suburbs would need to deliver at least 60 percent of future housing growth.
