Sunshine Coast Airport Business Park Expansion DA Draws 800+ Objections
A development application for a 45-hectare business park adjacent to Sunshine Coast Airport has drawn more than 800 formal objections from the local community, making it one of the most contested planning proposals in the region's history.
The application, lodged by Sunshine Coast Airport Pty Ltd, proposes a logistics and aviation services hub including warehousing, freight facilities, and a fuelling depot.
Objectors have raised concerns about increased heavy vehicle traffic on residential roads, the potential for aviation fuel spills to contaminate the Maroochy River catchment, and the destruction of 12 hectares of coastal heath vegetation listed as endangered under federal environmental law.
Sunshine Coast Council has appointed an independent town planning consultant to assess the application and prepare a report for the full council, which is expected to make a determination by August 2026.
